I’m a fan of Resident Evil and deck building card games, so this felt like a perfect match. The gameplay combines elements of Dominion with Thunderstone and a hint of Ascension. The thing that really sets it apart is that there are multiple modes. You are given a set deck of 10 cards and discard your hand and draw 5 new cards at the end of each turn. You get 1 buy, 1 action, and 1 explore a turn which allows you to go into the mansion to kill zombies and gain points. You buy cards (which include more ammo, weapons, and actions) to improve your deck and improve your chances to kill zombies. Each zombie is worth a set number of decorations (victory points) and at the end of the game, whoever has the most victory points wins. Simple gameplay, right?
Ammunition cards (basic currency cards) produce both gold and provide ammo for weapons. Each weapon has an ammo cost for exploring the mansion and sometimes come with effects. The action cards give you special effects like drawing cards as well as adding more buys, ammo, money, or actions. This aspect seems to slow the game down a bit as you have to stock up ammo as well as weapons to explore the mansion. There are 3 sets (one core and 2 expansions, one expansion can be played as a stand alone game) and an additional game mode and additional rules for playing past when you die.
The Resident Evil Deck Building Card Game is fun, but can be time consuming. I recommend getting into deck building games first with Ascension or Dominion. This is very fun and definitely worth a try. Both deck building game fans and Resident Evil fans will find this game enjoyable. I recommend starting with the basic set first to get the hang of the game. Thanks again for stopping by and have fun gaming.
